Consent for the win!

I Love Consent Campaign is a well known campaign throughout our nation. Colleges and Universities, all over the United States, participate in different programs or social events to bring awareness to sexual assault and sexual violence. When asked to participate in this campaign, in creating a call to action flyer, I immediately began brainstorming ideas. As mentioned in my previous blog, I start out with thumbnail sketches. In the thumbnail sketches, you want to create different designs that you may believe are visually appealing to your audience.

However, before thinking of a design, you want to brainstorm different headers and subheads, since you are designing a call to action flyer. The headers I came up with are, “Let’s Talk About Sex Baby!,” “STRAIGHT OUTTA CONSENT,” and “ I Heart Consent.” These headers are very straight to the point, trendy, and eye catching. Suggestion: look up the latest trend and incorporate it to your topic. After finding a header, you want to pick a subhead, I chose: “You and me, Yes or no?,” “Red for NO, Green for YES,” and “Actions do NOT speak louder than words.”  After you figured this out, proceed in designing your flyer.

What images would you want to use? What colors you want to use in order to help catch the audience's eye? Font? Placement? All of these are very important visuals when designing the flyer. In my sketches, you’ll see that some designs are a little complex, where others are a bit simple. I have incorporated my headers and subheads with different images, such as “I Heart Consent.” Instead of putting the word “heart” in the flyer, I replaced it with the actual heart shape, that will contain information about this campaign.

Moving ahead, the header and subhead I chose for the flyer is “STRAIGHT OUTTA CONSENT, Actions do NOT speak louder than words!” I chose this for a more simple design (4th thumbnail sketch) because I learned that minimal can be the best way to convey a strong message. With my header and subhead, the message itself is well described and straight to the point.

  1. Hey Julissa GREAT IDEA!! you have several clever thumbnails you have created - especially using something that is topical and will be recognizable to many. Great use of support text as well! Yes! 4th thumbnail is your final flyer layout!
